Welcome to the Lougheed Building
The Lougheed Building, at 604 1st St SW Calgary, was completed in 1912, as the marquis downtown destination of the day. Architecturally, the 86,000 square foot office building, with retail streetscape, is a late Edwardian period building, in the Chicago Commercial style. The property was a flagship development of one of Calgary’s most prominent figures of the day, Senator Sir James Lougheed.
The Lougheed Building has been an important part of the business and political landscape in downtown Calgary over most of the last century. In 2003 the property was designated as an Historical Resource at both municipal and provincial levels. In 2008 a restoration and re-occupancy of the building was completed. The restoration received a Calgary Heritage Authority Lion Award for the project.
